The Munsons of Texas — Maps
The United States, 1783—1803, with highlighting added to trace the trip by flatboat of the Munson, Hunter and Grady families from Holston, Virginia, to the Natchez District in 1792, a distance of approximately 1500 miles. The Holston settlement was founded by Stephen Holston in 1748 when he built his cabin thirty feet from the head spring of the Indian (renamed Holston River). Now extinct, the settlement was located very near Abingdon (formerly Wolf Hills) in Washington County, Virginia, a major refueling stop for early travelers moving into Tennessee, Kentucky, what is now West Virginia, and the Carolinas.
